Recommendations for the day

Garden

Waxing moon: by tradition it favours sowing, pricking out and transplanting plants grown for their parts above ground. Plants are thought to take up more moisture now, so watering and feeding are put to better use.

Fruit day: the day for tomatoes, peppers, beans, peas, cereals and fruit trees. By tradition it is also a good day for picking fruit and collecting seed.

Lifestyle

Waxing moon: by tradition a time of building up and recharging. It favours starting new habits, nourishment, and caring for skin and hair.

Warmth day: a day of drive and movement. A good day for a longer walk, a workout, and the tasks that take some courage.

Household

By tradition baking turns out well on a warmth day, and it is a good day for preserving too.

Nutrition

Protein day: in the traditional moon calendar the quality of proteins comes to the fore. If you follow it, choose a lighter source of protein today, such as pulses, fish or eggs.

Get moving!

Take a brisk walk outdoors today, at least 20 minutes. Movement and daylight are your simplest source of energy.

Herb of the day

Fennel seed

Foeniculum vulgare

Fruit day: by tradition the part of the plant to gather today

An aniseed-scented umbellifer whose fruit (the "seed") is known from traditional tummy teas.

Description

A perennial umbellifer, 1–2 m tall, with finely divided leaves. The ripe fruits are gathered in autumn. They contain an essential oil (anethole, fenchone).

Traditional use

Traditionally drunk as a tea to ease bloating, wind and digestive cramps, and for coughs.

Preparation

Tea: crush a teaspoon (about 1.5–2.5 g) of seeds just before use, pour on 200 ml of hot water, cover and steep for 10–15 minutes.

Caution

May cause allergy in people sensitive to the carrot family (for example celery, carrot). The essential oil must not be taken internally during pregnancy, breastfeeding or by young children; give fennel tea to a baby only on a doctor's advice.

The astronomical data (phase, illumination, moonrise and moonset, the Moon's sign) are computed. The qualities of the days and the recommendations come from tradition and folk observation and are not scientifically proven. The herb descriptions are general information and do not replace advice from a doctor or pharmacist; in case of illness, pregnancy, breastfeeding or regular medication, ask a professional first.
