Recommendations for the day

Garden

Waning moon: by tradition it favours sowing and planting root vegetables, pruning, weeding, working the soil and manuring. Produce harvested now is said to keep better.

Flower day: the day for sowing, planting and tending flowers. By tradition cut flowers last longer today, and herbs gathered for their flowers are best picked now.

Lifestyle

Waning moon: by tradition a time of letting go, cleansing and tidying up. It favours decluttering, lighter meals and finishing tasks.

Light day: a day of lightness and connection. A good day for conversations, learning, fresh air and a little music.

Household

Air the rooms well on a light day; by tradition it is a good day for cleaning windows and airing bedding.

Nutrition

Fat day: in the traditional moon calendar the quality of fats comes to the fore. Light, good-quality oils such as olive oil, and nuts, are a good choice today.

MoniMarkT wellness inspiration

A deep breath

Three times today, stop for a minute: breathe in for a count of four, hold for four, and breathe out for six.

Herb of the day

Lavender

Lavandula angustifolia

Flower day: by tradition the part of the plant to gather today

A fragrant shrublet with purple flowers, typical of the hills north of Lake Balaton.

Description

An evergreen shrublet, 30–60 cm tall, with narrow grey-green leaves. The flowering tips or the rubbed-off flowers are gathered in early summer. Its main constituent is the essential oil (linalool, linalyl acetate).

Traditional use

Traditionally used as a calming, relaxing evening tea, in scented pillows and in the bath; its scent helps you unwind.

Preparation

Tea: pour 200 ml of hot water on a teaspoon (about 1–2 g) of flowers, cover and steep for 10 minutes. For a bath, infuse a handful of flowers and add the strained infusion to the bath water.

Caution

Use the essential oil internally only on professional advice, and never undiluted on the skin. Avoid internal use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. May strengthen the effect of sedatives.
