Recommendations for the day

Garden

Waxing moon: by tradition it favours sowing, pricking out and transplanting plants grown for their parts above ground. Plants are thought to take up more moisture now, so watering and feeding are put to better use.

Leaf day: the day for lettuce, spinach, cabbage and leafy herbs. By tradition the best day for watering and mowing the lawn; produce meant for storage is better not picked today.

Lifestyle

Waxing moon: by tradition a time of building up and recharging. It favours starting new habits, nourishment, and caring for skin and hair.

Water day: a day of feelings and renewal. Mind that you drink enough; a warm bath, quiet and restful sleep are especially welcome.

Household

By tradition a water day is for watering houseplants and wet cleaning; laundry is better done on another day.

Nutrition

Carbohydrate day: in the traditional moon calendar the quality of carbohydrates comes to the fore. Whole grains and vegetables are a better choice today than sugar and white flour.

MoniMarkT wellness inspiration

Drink mindfully

Put a jug of water on your desk with a slice of lemon or a few mint leaves, and see that it is empty by the evening.

Herb of the day

Peppermint

Mentha × piperita

Leaf day: by tradition the part of the plant to gather today

A refreshingly scented garden plant, the best-known medicinal mint.

Description

A perennial, 50–90 cm tall, spreading by runners, with square stems. The leaves are gathered before or at the start of flowering. Its main constituent is an essential oil rich in menthol.

Traditional use

Traditionally used as a tea for digestive complaints, bloating and feeling full after meals; its scent is refreshing.

Preparation

Tea: pour 200 ml of hot water on a tablespoon (about 1.5–3 g) of leaves, cover and steep for 5–10 minutes. Up to three cups a day.

Caution

Use with care with heartburn (reflux), gallstones or bile duct disease. Never put the essential oil or menthol on a small child's face or near the nose: it can cause breathing spasms.
