Recommendations for the day

Garden

Waning moon: by tradition it favours sowing and planting root vegetables, pruning, weeding, working the soil and manuring. Produce harvested now is said to keep better.

Fruit day: the day for tomatoes, peppers, beans, peas, cereals and fruit trees. By tradition it is also a good day for picking fruit and collecting seed.

Lifestyle

Waning moon: by tradition a time of letting go, cleansing and tidying up. It favours decluttering, lighter meals and finishing tasks.

Warmth day: a day of drive and movement. A good day for a longer walk, a workout, and the tasks that take some courage.

Household

By tradition baking turns out well on a warmth day, and it is a good day for preserving too.

Nutrition

Protein day: in the traditional moon calendar the quality of proteins comes to the fore. If you follow it, choose a lighter source of protein today, such as pulses, fish or eggs.

Herb of the day

Hawthorn

Crataegus monogyna

Fruit day: by tradition the part of the plant to gather today

A thorny shrub with white flowers and red berries, the traditional herb of the heart.

Description

A thorny shrub or small tree, 2–6 m tall. The flowering tips are gathered in spring and the red berries in autumn. They contain flavonoids and oligomeric proanthocyanidins.

Traditional use

Traditionally drunk as a tea to support the ageing heart and circulation, and for nervous heart complaints and restlessness.

Preparation

Tea: pour 200 ml of hot water on a teaspoon (about 2–3 g) of crushed berries or flowering tips and steep for 15–20 minutes. Traditionally taken regularly over several weeks.

Caution

With heart disease, use it only after checking with your doctor, and never instead of your prescribed medicines. It may interact with heart medicines (for example digoxin, beta blockers) and blood-pressure medication.
