Recommendations for the day

Garden

Waxing moon: by tradition it favours sowing, pricking out and transplanting plants grown for their parts above ground. Plants are thought to take up more moisture now, so watering and feeding are put to better use.

Flower day: the day for sowing, planting and tending flowers. By tradition cut flowers last longer today, and herbs gathered for their flowers are best picked now.

Lifestyle

Waxing moon: by tradition a time of building up and recharging. It favours starting new habits, nourishment, and caring for skin and hair.

Light day: a day of lightness and connection. A good day for conversations, learning, fresh air and a little music.

Household

Air the rooms well on a light day; by tradition it is a good day for cleaning windows and airing bedding.

Nutrition

Fat day: in the traditional moon calendar the quality of fats comes to the fore. Light, good-quality oils such as olive oil, and nuts, are a good choice today.

A good conversation

Call someone today you have been thinking of for a while, just to ask how they are.

Herb of the day

Lime (linden) flower

Tilia cordata, Tilia platyphyllos

Flower day: by tradition the part of the plant to gather today

The flowers of our lime trees, fragrant in early June: a classic of winter teas.

Description

The flower clusters of small- and large-leaved lime are gathered together with their bract when most flowers have opened. They contain mucilage, flavonoids and a little essential oil.

Traditional use

Traditionally drunk as a hot tea in the cold season, to promote sweating and soothe coughs, and as a calming evening drink.

Preparation

Tea: pour 200 ml of hot water on a tablespoon (about 2 g) of flowers, cover and steep for 5–10 minutes. Sip slowly while hot.

Caution

Generally well tolerated; rarely it may cause an allergic reaction. With fever or a lingering illness, see a doctor.
